Boko Haram: Army neutralizes attack in Borno state

Several Boko Haram insurgents that launched an attack on Mainok, a community located in the Kaga Local Government area of Borno state, paid with their lives as they were repelled by troops of the Nigerian Army.
Mainok is located about 73 kilometres away from Maiduguri, the Borno state capital.
Reportedly, the insurgents arrived the town in two trucks and motor cycles.
The troops, according to witnesses, killed about 10 insurgents and wounded others when they tried to infiltrate a military unit in the town.The gun battle between troops of the Nigerian Army and the Boko Haram insurgents, resulted in the death of at least 10 insurgents and injury to several others.
A former chairman of the local government, Alhaji Lawal Wasaram, confirmed the incident occurred at about 6:00 p.m.
The quick intervention of the army also prevented the Boko Haram insurgents from taking over the town.
“The gallant troops successfully repelled the insurgent and protected the town from attack.
“It is difficult to ascertain the causalities; about 10 insurgents were killed and several others wounded in the failed attempt to attack Mainok,” he said.
